Mr.
Godwin serves both public and private clients in obtaining,
developing, and protecting their rights to high quality
and reliable water supplies. More often than not,
this involves complex negotiations among competing
interests and state and federal resource agencies.
Mr. Godwin's clients also benefit from his background
and experience in understanding and complying with
the regulatory and environmental laws that govern
water diversion, use, transfer, and management.
Experience
Prior to becoming an attorney, Mr. Godwin spent 12
years with the California Department of Water Resources
as a water resources planner and environmental specialist.
Art has represented public and private clients in
the fields of water resources and environmental law
since 1990. He provides counsel on obtaining and defending
water rights and water supplies and obtaining environmental
compliance approvals for development projects under
local, state, and federal laws. He joined the firm
in 2004.
Education
Art Godwin received his undergraduate degree in 1978
from the University of California Santa Cruz. He received
his Juris Doctorate from the University of the Pacific,
McGeorge School of Law in 1989 where he graduated
with distinction. Art is a member of the California
State Bar and the Merced County Bar Association.
Personal
Art and Penny have two daughters. His hobbies include
backpacking and cycling.
